No. 6 Ohio State Cruises to 38-6 Win Over Hofstra



COLUMBUS, Ohio — No. 6 Ohio State (3-0) earned bonus point victories in the first six matches of the day and went on to win 38-6 Sunday vs. Hofstra (2-2) at the Covelli Center.

How it Happened

125        No. 10 Brendan McCrone (OSU) def. Dylan Acevedo (HOF) | F, 2:26           

 McCrone opened the match with a takedown in under 30 seconds of action for a 3-0 lead. He then added a near fall for an additional four points before earning the pin at 2:26. . 

133        No. 17 Nic Bouzakis (OSU) def. Chase Liardi (HOF) | MD, 12-2         

Bouzakis struck first with a takedown followed by a Liardi escape. After another takedown and Liardi escape, Bouzakis led 6-2 after the first period. Bouzakis escaped to open the second before adding a takedown for a 10-2 lead after two periods. With a point for riding time and a stalling point on Hofstra, Bouzakis won by major decision, 12-2. 

141        No. 2 Jesse Mendez (OSU) def. Justin Hoyle (HOF) | F, 3:40

 2024 Big Ten and NCAA Champion Jesse Mendez scored the opening takedown about a minute into the first period. He added three more to lead 12-3 after the first three minutes. Mendez then earned the fall at 3:40. 

149        No. 11 Dylan D’Emilio (OSU) def. Noah Tapia (HOF) | MD, 16-4        

After a quick takedown and two-point near fall, D’Emilio jumped to a 5-1 lead after a Tapia escape. Another takedown and four point near fall made it 12-1 after the first. D’Emilio earned an early escape in the and a point for stalling in the second for a 14-1 lead. Tapia added a takedown in the third but D’Emilio, with an escape and point for riding time, prevailed, 16-4 for the win by major decision.

157        No. 9 Paddy Gallagher (OSU) def. Jurius Clark (HOF) | MD, 14-5     

 Gallagher led 6-2 after the first with a pair of takedowns around a two Clark escapes. After another Hofstra escape in the second, Gallagher added a takedown to lead 9-4 after five minutes. Gallagher escaped in the third and added a takedown for a 13-4 lead. After a Clark escape, Gallagher got the win by decision, 14-5 with a point added for riding time. 

165        No. 11 Sammy Sasso (OSU) def. Kyle Mosher (HOF) | MD, 14-4       

Sasso opened the second half of the match with an early takedown followed by a Mosher escape. Sasso added a takedown near the end of the period to lead 6-1 headed to the second. Sasso escaped to open the second and then added a takedown for a 10-2 lead after five minutes. Mosher added an escape and with a point for riding time and a takedown, Sasso earned the win by major decision, 14-4. The win was his 50th career victory in dual competitions. 

174        Greyson Harris (HOF) def. T.J. Schierl (OSU) | D, 11-7   

Harris scored the first takedown of the bout and added another to lead 6-2 after the first period. Schierl scored first in the second with a takedown to trail 8-5 after five minutes. Schierl opened the third with an escape. Harris countered with a takedown and finished off the bout with a win by decision, 11-7  

184        Ross McFarland (HOF) def. Gavin Bell (OSU) | D, 7-3 

 Bell scored first after a scramble for a 3-1 lead after the first. McFarland made it 3-2 Buckeyes with an escape and took the lead with a takedown to make it 5-3 Hofstra after two periods. McFarland took the match by decision, 7-3 with a point added for riding time and a stalling penalty point.  

197        No. 11 Luke Geog (OSU) def. Nik Miller (HOF) | TF, 15-0    

Geog opened with a takedown and two-point near fall for a 5-0 lead. He added six more points on near fall calls of four and two points for an 11-0 lead with two minutes gone in the first. With another four-point near fall, Geog won by technical fall, 15-0.  

HWT      No. 8 Nick Feldman (OSU) def. Danny Church (HOF) | TF, 21-6

Feldman quickly earned three takedowns for a 9-2 advantage less than a minute into the first period. He added two more for a 15-5 lead and finished off the match with two more for a 21-6 win by technical fall.
