COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women’s hockey team returns to action in the new year with an exciting series against No. 1 Wisconsin this week.
The Buckeyes (13-4-2, 8-4-2 WCHA) and Badgers (19-1-0, 13-1-0 WCHA) face off for the third time this season, and the first on the road for Ohio State, Thursday from LaBahn Arena in Madison at 8 p.m. on B1G+ (subscription required).
Game two of the series between the top two ranked teams in the country will be played outdoors at Wrigley Field in Chicago on Saturday in game three of the Frozen Confines: Big Ten Hockey Series. Puck drop is set for 5:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on Big Ten Network.

Buckeyes in a Nutshell
- Thursday marks the Buckeyes’ first game in 40 days. The team ended 2024 with a split against Minnesota State Nov. 22-23 on the road.
- Saturday’s game is just the second outdoor game in Ohio State women’s hockey history. The team played its first outdoor game against Minnesota on Jan. 18, 2020. Both of Ohio State’s outdoor games have been played against the No. 1 ranked team in the country with the Gophers holding the No. 1 ranking in their 2020 meeting and the Badgers earning the top ranking ahead of this weekend’s matchup.
- Ohio State’s three 20-point scorers – Joy Dunne (24), Jenna Buglioni (23) and Joceyln Amos (22) – rank in the top 20 nationally in points scored this season. The trio leads the team with 12 goals on the year, tying for ninth nationally, entering the second half of the season.
- Emma Peschel paces the Buckeyes with 15 assists on the season, good for 12th in the country.
- Goaltender Amanda Thiele has played 12 of Ohio State’s 19 games this season. The graduate from Milford, Mich. has earned a .883 save percentage and an 8-3-1 record on the year. She became the program’s winningest goaltender in the fall and has 61 wins in 75 starts for the Buckeyes.
- Ohio State is tied for first in the country with four shorthanded goals on the year. Buglioni is tied for first nationally with two shorthanded goals. With five shorthanded goals for her career, the Buckeye captain is one shy of tying the program record of six.
- Dunne, Peschel, Thiele, Sloane Matthews, Jordyn Petrie and Kiara Zanon helped lead Team USA to the Women’s Euro Hockey Tournament title in December. In all, 15 current, former and future Buckeyes represented their home countries in the tournament.
Series History – Buckeyes vs. Badgers
- Ohio State and Wisconsin split the series in Columbus in November with the Badgers taking game one, 4-2, and the Buckeyes winning game two, 3-2.
- The teams have met in the last two national championship games, with Ohio State winning by a 1-0 score in 2024 and Wisconsin taking the 1-0 win in 2023. Both teams have won two national championships in the last four years.
- The Buckeyes and Badgers are no strangers to neutral site matchups. The teams have met 12 times on neutral ice ahead of Saturday’s game. Ohio State is 4-8-0 against Wisconsin in those contests.
- This is the fourth consecutive regular season matchup between the teams as the top two ranked programs in the national polls.
- The Buckeyes are 6-4-0 in the last 10 meetings against Wisconsin. In head coach Nadine Muzerall‘s tenure, the Buckeyes are 18-20-4 against the Badgers.
