COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s golf junior Kary Hollenbaugh has been invited to play in the prestigious Augusta National Women’s Amateur (ANWA) this spring.
“All glory to God; I am so lucky and blessed to have these opportunities and I’m just so thankful,” Hollenbaugh said. “It’s surreal that I get to play at Augusta National with the best amateur golfers in the world, representing Ohio State. Getting invited to the tournament has been a goal of mine for a long time. I am so excited for the experience, and I am looking forward to making incredible memories. I am so thankful to my coaches and my team at Ohio State for helping me get here.”
This will be the first career ANWA appearance for Hollenbaugh. An international field of 72 women amateurs will compete over 54 holes of stroke play. A cut will take place after 36 holes, advancing the leading 30 players and ties to the final round at the historic Augusta National Golf Club. Provided she remain an amateur, the ANWA champion will receive an invitation to the next five ANWAs, the U.S. Women’s Open, the AIG Women’s Open, the Chevron Championship, the Evian Championship and any USGA, R&A and PGA of America amateur championships for which she is eligible for one year.
Hollenbaugh has had a strong winter season, most recently winning her second straight South Atlantic Women’s Amateur title with a four-round score of 283 (-5). She placed third at the Patriot All-America, firing a nine-under 201. Her performance secured her ANWA invitation.
