COLUMBUS, Ohio – At the Philadelphia Invitational Saturday hosted by UPenn, the Ohio State women’s fencing squad was a perfect 5-0 on the day, with the Buckeye men 4-1.
The women improve to 19-5 vs. all opponents this season and the men are now 16-6.
Both squads posted victories over Johns Hopkins, Penn, North Carolina and Penn State. The women also topped Duke, with the men falling to the Blue Devils.
The women’s foil and epee squads were undefeated on the day, with saber 1-4. For the men, epee was 5-0, saber 2-3 and foil 1-4.
Dasha Myroniuk led the women’s foil squad and all women with a 15-0 mark in the event. Alina Lee was 9-1 in foil, with Claire Teresa Galavotti 8-5. Gloria Klughardt was first for the women’s epee squad with a 12-3 mark and Marie-Frederique Millette was 10-3 on the day. Natalia Botello led women’s saber with an 8-4 ledger.
For the men, Gabriel Feinberg was first for epee and overall with a 12-2 record. Miles Weiss (9-2) and Matthew Bülau (9-3) both picked up nine wins and Viktor Kulcsar had a 6-0 mark. In men’s saber, Avin Rai and Kelly Liu led the way with matching 8-4 records and in men’s foil, Solin Li and Lorenzo Mion each had a 5-7 mark.
The Buckeyes will end the weekend in Queens, N.Y., at the St. John’s Cup Sunday. Ohio State will go up against St. John’s at 10 a.m., Columbia at 11:15 a.m., Harvard at 12:30 p.m. and Notre Dame at 3:45 p.m.
