COLUMBUS, Ohio – Brian Wright, one of the Ohio State women’s volleyball assistant coaches, has taken the head coaching job at Toledo as announced by the Rockets on Thursday. Wright joined the Buckeye staff in February 2020 and has been an assistant coach the past five seasons.
“I am incredibly grateful for my past five years as a Buckeye,” Wright said. “I am so thankful for everything I’ve learned from Jen and Janine that has helped me prepare for the next step in my career. I’ve always wanted the best for every player on this team, which makes it challenging to leave. I will miss this team greatly and look forward to watching their growth and success from a couple hours away. Once a Buckeye, always a Buckeye.”
“We want to thank Brian for his commitment to this program and its people the past five seasons,” Jen Flynn Oldenburg, Ohio State head coach, said. “He’s been an integral part of our Buckeye family and we wish him the best in his first head coaching position.”
In the past five seasons with Wright on staff, Ohio State has accumulated a 90-52 record and is 59-36 in conference matches. The Buckeyes reached the regional semifinals in spring 2021 and fall 2021 and then made the program’s fourth overall regional finals appearance in 2022 – the program’s first regional finals appearance in 18 years. Ohio State has had four student-athletes receive eight All-American awards since Wright’s arrival in Columbus.
