COLUMBUS, Ohio – Makenna Webster’s trophy case added another significant piece on Tuesday, as the graduate student was named a second team All-American by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
Webster is just the seventh player in program history to earn All-American honors in multiple seasons. She joins Sue Marcellus (1977, 1978, 1979), Katie Hobson (1999, 2000), Vanessa Immordino (2001, 2002), Saskia Mueller (2004, 2005), Yesenia Luces (2005, 2007) and Berta Queralt (2009, 2010). Additionally, the Buckeyes have now produced an All-American in three consecutive seasons (Emma Goldean in 2022, followed by Webster in 2023 and 2024).
“This honor caps an outstanding career for Makenna and we couldn’t be more proud of her,” said head coach Jarred Martin. “She obviously is a very skilled player and was a huge part of our success, but what made her special was the kind of person and teammate that she’s been.”
In Webster’s final season with the scarlet and gray, she was once again the leader of an offense that lifted Ohio State to a 14-5 overall record and notched wins over six ranked opponents. A unanimous first team All-Big Ten selection, she finished sixth nationally in points per game (2.21), 11th in goals per game (0.84) and 24th in assists per game (0.53).
A two-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, Webster scored at least one goal in 12 of 19 games (Ohio State was 10-2 in those games). On Oct. 18, her goal late in the second half gave Ohio State a 2-1 win at Maryland, which was the Buckeyes’ first-ever win over the Terrapins.
In a 7-1 Senior Day win over Central Michigan, Webster scored her 100th career point, becoming the 11th player in program history to reach that milestone. She had 89 points in the last two seasons, including a 16-goal, 10-assist effort this fall. Webster is also the first player in Ohio State history to have back-to-back 40-point seasons in nearly 20 years, since Britta Eickhoff did it in 1996 and 1997.
And just as importantly, her play helped the Buckeyes win: Ohio State had a 28-11 record in the last two seasons. This fall, the Buckeyes got off to their best-ever start and achieved their highest national ranking in program history.
Shortly after her collegiate season ended, Webster spent time with the United States Field Hockey Senior National Team
From the end of September through the conclusion of the Buckeyes’ season, Webster also split her time between the field hockey team and the women’s ice hockey team, where she’s helped the Buckeyes reach two NCAA Frozen Fours and win the 2024 national championship. This season, she’s played in nine games and had two goals and two assists.
Academically, Webster is an OSU Scholar-Athlete, Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a member of the NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad. She’s already graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communication and is enrolled in the sports management master’s program.
