Toledo Places Sixth in Magnus Cup Invitational



CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Toledo women’s swimming and diving team finished sixth at the Magnus Cup Invitational hosted by Cleveland State on Saturday night. The Rockets totaled 513 points in the event.

In the diving competition, the Rockets placed fifth overall with 212.25 points. In the 3×3 yard relay, Kassie Gutierrez, Annie Bartlett and Amanda Dosey combined to take third with a time of 2:12.25.

Freshman Rosie Richards placed eighth in the 200 breaststroke with a final time of 2:20.82, recording a new personal-best time. In the 100 freestyle, junior Janne Slegers clocked a final time of 50.98 to take ninth place.

Sophomore Leah Evans notched a final time of 2:04.21 in the 200 butterfly, taking ninth place overall. The 400 freestyle relay team consisting of Richards, Audrey Zimmerman, Evans and Slegers finished sixth with a final time of 3:25.42.

Throughout the weekend, three Rockets registered Top 10 times in program history. Richards moved into seventh in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.10, while Gracie Pardue took hold of ninth place in the 100 backstroke with a final time of 56.13. Evans now sits in second all time in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.34 and remains in sixth in the 100 butterfly.

“I’m so proud of this team and what they’ve accomplished these three days,” said Head Coach Jacy Dyer. “It’s great to see their hard work pay off. The details in the pool are really coming together and more importantly, these women are coming together and growing stronger as a team. This week was a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to seeing what else they can do the rest of the season.”

UP NEXT

Toledo will return to the pool on Friday, Jan. 10 against Marshall. The dual meet is set to begin at 5:00 p.m. at the Toledo Student Recreation Center Pool.
