Toledo Falls in Close Match to UIC, 4-3

CHICAGO – The Toledo women’s tennis team dropped a close match to UIC on Friday afternoon. Freshman Jacklynka Scholten registered her seventh-straight singles match win in the Rockets’ 4-3 defeat to the Flames.

The Rockets (5-2) earned the point in doubles play after grabbing wins on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts. Jacklynka Scholten and Neha Guru picked up a 6-3 victory on the No. 1 court, while Audrey Moutama and Jone Ibanez clinched the doubles point on the No. 2 court, 7-5.

Toledo started strong in singles play, with Scholten tallying a straight-set victory on the No. 3 court for a 2-0 lead. Guru and Ibanez fell on the No. 4 and 5 singles courts, respectively, to even the match score at 2-2.

On the No. 1 court, Moutama earned a three-set victory over UIC’s Mayu Ushio 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 to put Toledo ahead 3-2. Freshman Annika Munson fell in three sets on the No. 6 court to knot the match, 3-3.

Rondon lost a close three-set match to UIC’s Edit Cosmo to give the Flames the victory.

Toledo (5-2) will take on the University of Chicago on Saturday in Joliet, Ill. at 2:00 p.m.
