TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo women’s basketball alumna Sammi Mikonowicz has joined the Rockets’ coaching staff as a graduate assistant, the program announced on Wednesday.
Mikonowicz, who holds several UT program records, begins her first season on the sidelines after finishing her playing career in 2025. She will handle duties related to player development, recruiting, day-to-day operations and more in her role.
“Having Sammi join our staff is an absolute slam dunk,” said Head Coach Ginny Boggess. “She is Blue Collar, Gold Standard, and I can’t imagine a more perfect opportunity for us both. She will be a catalyst as we move this program forward, leading with love and passion unmatched. I’m so excited to see her grow in this role. We are proud to welcome back Sammi and her fiancé, Noah!”
A native of nearby Rossford, Ohio, Mikonowicz starred in her playing career at Toledo. She was part of a historic run of three-consecutive Mid-American Conference regular-season championships in the 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, along with the conference tournament title and an NCAA Tournament victory in 2023. She holds program records for career rebounds (1,110), games played (160) and minutes (5,129), while also ranking eighth in rebounds average (6.9) and 10th in points (1,598).
Mikonowicz garnered several MAC awards during her career. She was a Third-Team All-MAC selection in 2023-24, before earning a second-team pick in 2024-25. Mikonowicz also earned MAC All-Tournament Team honors in 2023 and 2025, with Toledo winning the tournament in 2023 and reaching the championship game in 2025.
Mikonowicz also embodied the Rockets’ academic excellence as a student-athlete, earning three CSC Academic All-District and four Academic All-District honors. She made numerous trips to the Dean’s and President’s Lists. Mikonowicz graduated with a degree in general studies and a concentration in economics in 2025.
“I’m super excited to begin learning the game of basketball from the other side, and am looking forward to working with Coach Boggess,” said Mikonowicz. “I wish I would have had more time at Toledo to grow as a player but am excited to begin learning and growing as a coach.”
