TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo baseball team dropped the series opener to Northern Illinois, 4-2 after the Huskies scored four runs in the eighth inning at Ralph McKinzie Field on Friday.

The Rockets (23-27, 12-13 MAC) struck twice in the fourth inning and held the 2-0 advantage through the seventh. However, the Huskies (20-29, 8-17 MAC) scored four runs, all with two outs in the eighth, to snap Toledo’s three-game winning streak.

Toledo remains two games up on the final MAC Tournament position with Central Michigan’s win over Eastern Michigan this afternoon.

How It Happened
- After three scoreless innings, back-to-back doubles from Cole Cahill and Tre Mariano gave Toledo a 1-0 lead in the fourth. Two batters later, Mariano scored on Kaleb Herbert’s sacrifice fly.
- The Huskies loaded the bases with two outs in the fifth, but a groundout ended the threat.
- Toledo had two-out, bases-loaded opportunities of their own in the seventh and eighth innings, but could not capitalize on either opportunity.
- With two outs in the eighth, the Huskies got on the board on an RBI single.and tied the game on a wild pitch. Then, Andrew Smart brought home the go-ahead run on an RBI single and came around to score on another base hit.
