Rockets Held Off by Oakland, 9-7

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo baseball team was unable to recover from a late offensive surge by Oakland, falling to the Golden Grizzles, 9-7 at Scott Park on Monday.
 
The Rockets (16-23) built up leads of 3-0 and later 5-2 at the end of the fifth, but the Golden Grizzlies (11-30) scored five runs across the sixth and seventh innings to take a 7-5 lead, which they would hold for good. Toledo had the tying run on base or at the plate in each of the final three innings, but could not capitalize on the late opportunities

How It Happened

• Toledo took a 3-0 lead on a Troy Sudbrook solo home run in the first and a two-run blast by Josh Cote in the second.
• The Golden Grizzles cut the lead to 3-2 on an RBI single in the third and a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
• Caden Konczak’s two-run home run in the fifth inning extended the Rockets’ lead to 5-2.
• Oakland drew four walks along with a single in the sixth, leading to two runs to make things 5-4.
• The Golden Grizzlies took a 7-5 lead in the seventh on a Brandon Nigh solo home run and a two-run double later in the inning.
• Caden Konczak’s sacrifice fly brought Toledo closer in the seventh, but the Rockets left the tying run in scoring position in the seventh and the eighth.
• Stolen bases lead to two RBI singles, which extended the Oakland lead to 9-6 in the ninth.
• Troy Sudbrook singled in the ninth to put a Rocket run on the board and bring the tying run to the plate, but a strikeout ended the game.
