WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Senior CJ van Wyk and junior Mads Jensen each fired four-under par 67s in Saturday’s second round to lead the Toledo men’s golf team at Purdue’s Boilermaker Invitational. The Rockets are tied for eighth place in the team standings and just nine strokes behind third-place Michigan at the par-71, 7,275-yard Ackerman-Allen course.
Van Wyk is tied for ninth place in the individual standings at four-under par, three strokes out of the lead. The George, South Africa native played his final 27 holes at six-under par with 10 birdies. He registered five birdies and just one bogey in his afternoon round.
Jensen is tied for 17th place at two-under par. A Tommerup, Denmark native, Jensen was five-under under over his final 10 holes in the afternoon highlighted by an eagle on the par-five, 543-yard No. 6 hole.
The 18-team field includes No. 11 Illinois, No. 37 Purdue, No. 38 Notre Dame, and No. 50 Marquette.
In the individual tournament at Purdue’s par-72, 7,465-yard Kampen Golf Course, sophomore Marijn Hoogeveen is tied for 10th place at five-over par 149 (78-71) and junior Bence Kotel is tied for 20th place at seven-over par 151 (78-73).
The third and final round will begin tomorrow morning with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start.
