Karina James Records Ninth-Best 1500m Time in Toledo History as Rockets Conclude Day One of Jesse Owens Classic



COLUMBUS – Junior Karina James moved into Rockets’ all-time top-10 list in the 1500m as the Toledo women’s track and field team wrapped up day one of the Jesse Owens Classic in Columbus, Ohio on Friday evening.

James placed sixth in the 1500m with a final time of 4:23.01, the ninth-fastest time in program history. Lianna Surtz and Alex Bauer followed behind, crossing the line together to take seventh with a mark of 4:23.33. Bailey Ranta took 15th overall with a personal best time of 4:29.02 while Lauren Zanotelli concluded the Rocket competitors with a time of 4:44.49.

Sophomore Nora Hark competed in the javelin throw, taking sixth with a final mark of 39.90m, which is the ninth-best distance in UT history.

The 200m and long jump events, which were originally scheduled for Friday, will take place on Saturday due to inclement weather.

UP NEXT

Toledo will conclude the Jesse Owens Classic on Saturday. Action will begin with the triple jump at 11:00 a.m.
