JJ Scholten Wraps Up ITA Conference Masters Tournament

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Toledo sophomore JJ Scholten wrapped up her fall slate in the 2025-26 season at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Conference Masters Tournament in San Diego, Calif.

Scholten represented the University of Toledo and the Mid-American Conference in the national event after winning the women’s singles championship at the MAC Individual Singles Championship in October.

The sophomore competed in two singles matches against top competition from around the country. She fell in three sets to the No. 3 overall seed, Arizona State’s Vivia Ovrootsky on Thursday, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. Ovrootsky was the No. 91 ranked singles player in the country in the preseason ITA rankings that were released in August.

Scholten then fell in straight sets against Fordham’s Nevena Kolarevic on Friday. This marked Scholten’s first ITA national competition of her young career.

Quoting Head Coach Tracy Mauntler

“JJ stood toe-to-toe with an incredibly accomplished Arizona State player and she battled like crazy. It came down to a few points. I’m always proud of the way JJ represents Toledo and our program.”
