COLUMBUS, Ohio – After a month of March that saw it play 16 of its 22 games at home, the 21st-ranked Ohio State softball team will hit the road to start April with a three-game trip to the West Coast this week. The Buckeyes face Long Beach State on Wednesday and then take on UCLA in a two-game conference series Friday and Saturday in Los Angeles.

Basics on the Buckeyes
- Ohio State is 29-7-1 overall and 6-2 in Big Ten play coming off of a series win over Indiana. The Buckeyes were 18-4 in the month of March and have won 11 of their last 12 games.
- Much of the Buckeyes’ success in March was powered by their offense. Ohio State is hitting .360 as a team with 165 extra base hits. Every player who has started 20 or more games is batting .320 or better for the season.
- Five players have 10 or more home runs, led by Jasmyn Burns, who has hit a team-high 14 out of the park. Reagan Milliken and Hadley Parisien each has 13 round-trippers while Kami Kortokrax has 11 and Taylor Cuse has hit 10.
- Burns’ .472 batting average is fourth-best in the conference. She’s second in slugging percentage (.1.019), third in RBI (48) and third in home runs.
- The Big Ten leader in RBI is Reagan Milliken, who has 55. Ohio State’s single-season record for RBI in a season is 66, which was set by Stacey Roth in 2002.
- Freshman Lorin Boutte (86.0) and Kennedy Kay (62.0) are Ohio State’s leaders in innings pitched. The pitching staff consists of three freshmen – Boutte, Layna Gerhard and Kassandra Gewecke – and Kay, who is a fourth-year junior.
Scouting Long Beach State and UCLA
- Long Beach State is 18-12 this season and 8-4 in the Big West. It is coming off a weekend sweep of UC Davis.
- On Monday, sophomore Kate Barnett and Lina Apodaca were named the Big West Pitcher of the Week and Freshman of the Week, respectively.
- Six pitchers have seen at least 14 innings of action this season. As a staff, Long Beach State has a 2.55 earned run average and .239 batting average against.
- UCLA enters the week with a 32-5 overall record, 7-1 mark in Big Ten play and on a four-game winning streak.
- The Bruins have midweek games scheduled at home on Tuesday vs. CSUN and Wednesday against UC San Diego.
- This weekend’s matchup will feature the No. 1 and No. 2-ranked Big Ten squads in runs scored. Ohio State has scored a league-leading 328 while UCLA is second with 293 runs scored.
