COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 14 Ohio State women’s golf team and freshman Nellie Ong are in first place after the first round of the NCAA Columbus Regional at the OSU Scarlet Course on Monday.
Three Buckeyes shot under par as the team carded a nine-under 279 on Monday. They lead second-place Arkansas by three strokes. Ohio State led the 12-team field in par 3 scoring (seven-under) and birdies (20). The Buckeyes were second in par 4 scoring (four-under).
Ong shot a career-low 66 (-6) in round one to put her atop the leaderboard. It is her fourth round in the 60s this season. She birdied seven holes, which led the 66-player field. She shot three-under on par 5s, which was tied for second-best among the field, and was also tied for second in par 3 scoring (two-under).
Faith Choi also fired a round in the 60s, carding a 69 (-3) on Monday. It is her fourth round in the 60s this season. She is tied for fourth place, and she birdied five holes, which was tied for third-most among the field. She tied for second-best in par 5 scoring (three-under),
Mandy Song shot 70 (-2) and birdied five holes. She is tied for 10th place going into Tuesday’s second round. Her five birdies are tied for third-most among the field and she tied for second-best in par 3 scoring (two-under).
Marina Joyce-Moreno carded a two-over 74. She is tied for 35th place.
Kary Hollenbaugh shot 75 (+3) and is tied for 44th place. She had two birdies.
NCAA Regionals continue Tuesday, May 6-Wednesday, May 7. The Buckeyes will tee off starting at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
