COLUMBUS, Ohio –The No. 2 Ohio State women’s hockey hits the road for a top three WCHA conference matchup against No. 3 Minnesota this weekend. The Buckeyes (4-0-0, 2-0-0 WCHA) and Gophers (6-0-0, 2-0-0 WCHA) face off Saturday, Oct. 18 and Sunday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m. ET from Ridder Arena in Minneapolis.
 
The games will be streamed on B1G+ (subscription required) and Sunday’s game will be carried on FOX9+ in the Twin Cities.
 
Buckeyes in a Nutshell

  • Ohio State enters this weekend’s match up 4-0-0 after sweeps of then-ranked No. 7 Colgate and Bemidji State to start the season. The series against the Gophers is the Buckeyes’ first road WCHA test.
  • Ohio State is led in points by freshman forward Hilda Svensson. Goal leaders for the Buckeyes are Svensson and junior captain Jocelyn Amos with three on the year. Freshman forward Jenna Raunio has dished a team-high five assists.
  • In net for the Buckeyes, Hailey MacLeod has started all four games, stopping 85.7% of shots for a 1.92 goals against average and a 4-0-0 record with one shut out. Genny Klein played the third period of game two against Colgate, saving four of five shots faced.
  • Ohio State has allowed its opponents just 82 shot attempts in four games, with just 54 of those attempts landing on target. Brooke Disher, Sara Swiderski and Leah Wicks both have two blocked shots apiece to lead the team. 
  • This weekend’s series is a battle between the top two scoring teams this season. Ohio State is second in the country with 5.50 goals per game and Minnesota sits on top with 6.17. The Buckeyes’ scoring margin of 3.50 goals is fourth nationally.
  • Ohio State’s faceoff success is the best in the nation with a win percentage of .674. Jocelyn Amos leads the team with 62 wins in the circle and a winning rate of .747.
  • This weekend’s series is not only a WCHA conference matchup, but a meeting between two of the four Big Ten women’s hockey teams. While women’s hockey is not a Big Ten sport, the Ohio State women’s hockey team is the only program that will face off against all the B1G teams this season. In addition to WCHA series against the Gophers and Wisconsin, the Buckeyes will also play Penn State Jan. 2-3 in Columbus.

Series History – Buckeyes vs. Gophers

  • While the all-time series between Ohio State and Minnesota leans in favor of the Gophers, 84-30-7, the Buckeyes are 15-8-2 in the last five seasons of the series.
  • Ohio State is 14-7-2 against the Gophers in Minneapolis since Nadine Muzerall took over the program in 2016.
  • Last season, the teams split the series 2-2-1. Ohio State earned eight points to Minnesota’s four in the conference standings.
