COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State track & field team returned to Indianapolis, Ind. for the second consecutive week to participate in the first of a two-day meet at the Crossroads of America Invitational.
The Buckeyes had eight top 10 finishes in various events. The athletes included Daniel Edwards (men’s pole vault, eighth), Lacey Stringer (women’s weight throw, 10th), Janela Spencer (women’s 60m hurdles, seventh), Marcus Brown Jr. (men’s 200m, ninth), Amelia Figler (women’s 600m, seventh), Lilly Eckels (women’s 600m, eighth), Jaxson Eckert (men’s 600m, fifth) and Zoee Lehman (women’s 3000m, eighth).
FIELD RESULTS
The Buckeyes had eight top 10 finishes in various events. The athletes included Daniel Edwards (men’s pole vault, eighth), Lacey Stringer (women’s weight throw, 10th), Janela Spencer (women’s 60m hurdles, seventh), Marcus Brown Jr. (men’s 200m, ninth), Amelia Figler (women’s 600m, seventh), Lilly Eckels (women’s 600m, eighth), Jaxson Eckert (men’s 600m, fifth) and Zoee Lehman (women’s 3000m, eighth).
FIELD RESULTS
- Women’s long jump: Kayla Watson was the only Buckeye to jump, notching a distance of 5.64m/18.06.00.
- Men’s long jump: Brian Kellon landed in the top half of the competition, finishing 13th with a jump of 6.95m/22-09.75.
- Men’s pole vault: Edwards earned a spot in the top 10, placing eighth (5.04m/16-06.50).
- Women’s weight throw: Stringer led the Buckeyes with a distance of 18.61m/61-00.75, placing 10th. Sophie Bidwell was the next to place with a throw going for 16.38m/53-09.00. Morgan Hallett was the third Buckeye to participate, tossing 16.19m/53-01.50.
- Men’s weight throw: Jack Knapke and Tanner Watson represented Ohio State. Knapke threw a distance of 18.30m/60-00.50 and Watson tossed a best mark of 17.35m/56-11.25.
TRACK RESULTS
- Women’s 60m first round: Amoi Hagans was the top Buckeye with a time of 7.73 with Spencer following right behind her with 7.77. Hagans slightly edged out her previous season high of 7.74, which happened at the Rod McCravy Memorial (RMM).
- Men’s 60m first round: Nick Robinson, the lone Ohio State athlete to participate, ran a time of 7.09. He improved his season best of 7.12, which he ran last week at the Hoosier Horsepower Classic (HHC).
- Women’s 60m hurdles first round: Spencer ran an 8.46, which was good for seventh place and qualified her for the next round. Katie Ruffener came in 11th after running an 8.72.
- Women’s 200m: Ruffener, running in her second event of the day, completed it in 26.51 seconds.
- Men’s 200m: Brown Jr. accomplished a top 10 finish, placing ninth with a time of 21.55. Robinson also competed, earning a time of 22.33.
- Women’s 600m: Figler and Eckels each placed in the top 10. Figler (1:34.20) finished seventh and Eckels (1:34.31) placed right after her in eighth. Arden La-Rose completed her 600m with a time of 1:37.71.
- Men’s 600m: Eckert finished fifth with a time of 1:22.69. Nathan Streby crossed the line in 1:24.95.
- Women’s 3000m: A trio of Buckeyes including Lehman, Ana Karmol and Mia Robillard ran the 3000m. Lehman finished eighth (9:46.54), good for the second fastest Buckeye time so far this season. Karmol ran a time of 9:58.96 and Robillard, a time of 10:11.74. Karmol broke her previous season high (10:04.86 at the HHC) by six seconds. Robillard also beat her previous season high (10:12.19 at the HHC).
- Men’s 3000m: Zubin Jha completed the event with a time of 8:25.41. He set a new season personal best with his previous PR being 8:30.70 (RMM).
UP NEXT
Ohio State will compete tomorrow, Jan. 25, in the second day of the Crossroads of America Invitational at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Doors to the public will open at 9:00 a.m. with the women’s shot put and women’s 60m hurdles finals each kickstarting the day at 11:00 a.m.
