COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State is in the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the 10th time in program history and will take on No. 2 Notre Dame on Thursday evening. Kickoff will be at 6 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
- The Buckeyes are 17-17-2 in 36 NCAA Tournament matches, all of which have come under head coach Lori Walker-Hock.
- Thursday’s match will be the third meeting between Ohio State and Notre Dame in the NCAA Tournament. The Buckeyes dropped a 3-1 decision to the Irish in South Bend in their first NCAA Tournament match in 2002. The teams met again in semifinals of the 2010 College Cup and Notre Dame came away with a 1-0 victory.
- Ohio State is 23-25-2 all-time against current ACC teams and 2-7-0 in NCAA Tournament matches. This season, the Buckeyes opened the year with a 1-1 draw against Clemson.
- All-time, Notre Dame leads the series with Ohio State 6-2-0 but the Buckeyes have won the two more recent meetings, winning both ends of a home-and-home series in 2017 and 2018.
- Ohio State is coming off a thrilling 2-0 win at No. 19 Georgia in the opening round last Friday. Junior Amanda Schlueter had the first goal in the ninth minute and then freshman Riley Lijewski scored in the 69th minute, notching a goal in her first NCAA Tournament match.
- The Buckeyes have surrendered just 11 goals all season and is in the Top 10 nationally in both goals-against average and save percentage. The program record for fewest goals allowed in a season in 13.
- Senior goalkeeper Molly Pritchard was named the Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year as she is fifth in the country with a .463 goals-against average. She also earned first team All-Big Ten honors for the first time in her career.
- Fellow senior captain Mirann Gacioch also earned her first All-Big Ten first team honors this season. Gacioch is the only player on the team to have played the full 90 in every match this season.
- Schlueter leads the team offensively with nine goals and four assists for 22 points. She is ninth in program history with 73 career points.
- Notre Dame is having a tremendous season, owning a 15-1-3 record. The Irish’s lone loss came in the regular season finale at Pitt on Oct. 30. Notre Dame is fourth in the country in scoring at over three goals per match.
