COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team (3-6, 0-1 B1G) fell in five sets (25-20, 22-25, 24-26, 25-22, 11-15) against RV UCLA (7-4, 1-0 B1G) in the Big Ten opener on Friday evening inside the Covelli Center.
Ohio State used a 5-1 run midway through the first set to create separation for a 25-20 set win. UCLA evened the match with a 25-22 set win in the second after taking an early lead. The Bruins scored the final three points of the third set to win by a 26-24 margin. Ohio State used a late 4-0 run to force a fifth set with a 25-22 set win in the fourth. UCLA started strong in the fifth set and held off an OSU push to earn a 15-11 set win.

The Buckeyes used an extended 5-1 run to increase their lead to 18-13, forcing a UCLA timeout. Ohio State scored back-to-back points to cap a 25-20 set win on a kill from Reese Wuebker.
- S2: The Bruins scored the first three points of the second set and built an early 9-3 lead. The Buckeyes battled back to get within two at 12-10. UCLA increased its lead back to five points at 19-14 but OSU responded with a pair of 3-0 runs to get within one at 22-21, prompting a UCLA timeout. UCLA evened the match with a 25-22 set win.
- S3: After being tied at six, Ohio State strung together five unanswered points to take an 11-6 lead amidst a UCLA timeout. The Bruins used a 3-0 run to tie the set at 15 – the first tie since 6-6. Each team regained the lead as the teams traded pairs of points. After trailing 23-22, the Buckeyes scored back-to-back points to take a 24-23 lead but the Bruins scored the next three points to win the set by a 26-24 margin.
- S4: Ohio State scored three unanswered points to take a 4-2 lead but UCLA tied the set at six. The Buckeyes used a 3-0 run to take a 12-9 lead and held the 16-13 advantage out of the media timeout. UCLA tied the set for the eighth time at 16. Ohio State used a 4-0 run to take a 21-17 lead but UCLA immediately cut that lead in half. The teams traded points for the remainder of the set with Ohio State capturing a 25-22 set win to force a fifth set.
- S5: The Bruins scored the first three points of the set and built a 6-2 lead, prompting a Buckeye timeout. Ohio State called a second timeout trailing 10-4. The Buckeyes strung together six unanswered points to get within one at 11-10. The Bruins responded with the next three points to increase their lead to 14-10 and won the match with a 15-11 decision in the set.

- This is the first meeting in the all-time series that took place in Columbus.
- This is the Buckeyes’ fifth match of the season (fourth consecutive) that went to five sets. OSU is 2-3 in five-setters this season.
