Buckeyes Boast Top Six Finishes in Final Indoor Tune-Up



ARKANSAS QUALIFIER RESULTS | FLAG CITY RESULTS | AU LAST CHANCE RESULTS
 
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State track & field team completed a weekend of fine-tuning in preparation for the Indoor Big Ten Championships set to take place next weekend.
 
All of the participating Buckeyes finished in sixth place or higher. Lacey Stringer won the AU Last Chance women’s shot put with a distance of 16.56m/54-04.00. At the Arkansas Qualifier, Leah Bertrand placed third in the women’s 60m dash preliminaries and second in the finals. Olivia Powell finished third (preliminaries) and sixth (finals) while Janela Spencer came in fourth (preliminaries) and second (finals) in the women’s 60m hurdles. At the Flag City Tune Up, Veronica Waugaman and Nicole Grimes tied for fourth in the women’s pole vault. Daniel Edwards landed in third with the second-best height clearance in the men’s pole vault while Bailey Fletcher finished in sixth.
 
 
Arkansas Qualifier
Friday, Feb. 21

  • Women’s 60m hurdles preliminaries: Powell (8.28) and Spencer (8.31) each earned an automatic qualifying spot in the semifinals by placing first and second in their heat with the third and fourth best times overall.
  • Women’s 60m hurdles finals: Spencer earned second place with a time of 8.23 seconds, while Powell finished sixth in 8.45 seconds.
  • Women’s 60m dash preliminaries: Bertrand won her heat and placed third overall with a qualifying time of 7.36 seconds.
  • Women’s 60m dash finals: Bertrand finished just 0.01 second shy of first place with a time of 7.25 seconds.

 
Flag City Tune Up
Friday, Feb. 21

  • Women’s pole vault: Waugaman and Grimes tied for fourth place with a clearance of 3.58m/11-09.00. Waugaman bypassed the first five height attempts before making her third attempt of 3.43m/11-03.00, then cleared 3.58m on her second attempt. Grimes bypassed the first six bar heights before clearing 3.58m on the first try.
  • Men’s pole vault: Edwards placed third with the second-best height clearance of 4.95m/16-03.00. He bypassed seven height opportunities before clearing his second attempt of 4.80m, then his third attempt of 4.95m. Fletcher finished in sixth after bypassing five bar heights before clearing 4.95m/14-09.25 on his second try.

Saturday, Feb. 22

  • Women’s shot put: Stringer won the women’s shot put with a distance of 16.56m/54-04.00.

 
 
UP NEXT
Next weekend, the Buckeyes will travel to Indianapolis, Ind. for the Big Ten Indoor Championships. Competition will take place on Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, March 1 with more information to be released this coming week.
