Angove Wins 400 IM Gold, Ohio State Remains in First Place at B1G Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio

– The No. 14 Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team remains in first place after three days of competition at the Big Ten Championships. The Buckeyes collected four more medals on day three, bringing their total medal count to nine, with freshman Sienna Angove winning gold in the 400 IM.  
 
Friday’s finals opened with the 100 fly. Nyah Funderburke placed fifth in the B final with an NCAA B standard time of 52.66.
 
The Buckeyes dominated the 400 IM, with three swimmers in the A final. Angove and Mia Rankin finished 1-2. Angove won gold with an NCAA B cut of 4:03.92. It is her first career Big Ten title, and it is her third medal of the meet (200 IM, 800 free relay). Rankin earned her silver medal with a time of 4:04.85, which is an NCAA B cut. Also, in the A final, Krista Marlin placed fourth with an NCAA B standard time of 4:06.79. Paige Delma placed second in the 400 IM B final with an NCAA B standard time of 4:08.84 and Jessica Eden placed second in the C final with an NCAA B standard time of 4:11.06.
 
In the A final of the 200 free, Rachel Bockrath and Erin Little finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Bockrath finished in 1:45.20 and Little finished in 1:45.34. Both are NCAA B cuts. In the C final, Mila Nikanorov placed sixth with a time of 1:47.73.
 
In the 100 breast, Ava DeAngelis earned her first Big Ten medal, winning bronze with an NCAA B cut of 59.25. Maria Ramos placed second in the B final with an NCAA B standard time of 59.99. Reese Dehen tied for fifth in the B final, finishing in 1:00.65, which is an NCAA B cut.
 
Funderburke finished fourth in the 100 back A final. She touched the wall at 51.18, which is an NCAA B standard time and a program record. In the B final, Delia Lloyd and Paige Hall finished second and third, respectively. Both finished in NCAA B standard times; Lloyd turned in a time of 51.74 and Hall finished in 52.19. In the C final, Teresa Ivan placed second with an NCAA B standard time of 53.30.
 
Lena Hentschel continued her strong performance on the boards, winning bronze on the 3-meter with an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 353.55. Hentschel won gold on the 1-meter on night two of the championships, successfully defending her Big Ten title. All four Ohio State divers advanced to 3-meter finals, with Mia Prusiecki, Paola Pineda Vazquez and Michelle Mazzara qualifying for the consolation final. Prusiecki won the consolation final with a score of 323.05. Pineda Vazquez placed second with a score of 322.20 and Mazzara placed sixth with a score of 287.65. All three scores are NCAA Zones qualifiers.
 
The 400 medley relay was the final event of the night and the Buckeye team of Lloyd, DeAngelis, Funderburke and Bockrath placed fourth with an NCAA provisional time of 3:32.35.
 
The Big Ten Championships at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion conclude on Saturday, Feb. 22. Prelims will begin at 10:00 a.m. and finals will get underway at 5:00 p.m.
