COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women’s hockey team defeated No. 11/10 St. Cloud State, 5-3, Friday night at the OSU Ice Rink to open the teams’ final series of the regular season. The Buckeyes (24-6-3, 18-6-3 WCHA) take the 2-0-1 lead in the season series vs. the Huskies (15-12-6, 10-12-5 WCHA) ahead of the finale tomorrow.
Short Story
Graduate forwards Jenna Buglioni and Makenna Webster started the senior weekend festivities off on a high note, performing the national anthem in front of a sold-out crowd of family, friends and Buckeye fans at the OSU Ice Rink. Buglioni sang the anthem while Webster signed it.
Riding the energy and excitement from pregame into the first period, Webster tallied the first goal of the game at 3:42 off assists from Buglioni and Brooke Disher.
The Buckeyes extended their lead with a 5-on-3 power play goal at 16:35 by Joy Dunne. Buglioni recorded her second point of the day and Mira Jungåker added the second assist.
The team took a 2-0 lead at the first intermission thanks to six saves, including a couple breakaway opportunities for the Huskies, by Buckeye netminder Amanda Thiele.
Both Ohio State and St. Cloud State scored in the middle frame with Jocelyn Amos bringing the Buckeye lead to three goals at 3:08, but the Huskies halted the Buckeyes’ run with a goal at 15:39 to bring the Ohio State advantage back down to two goals. Thiele added four saves in the period.
St. Cloud scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the third period to tie the game at 3-3 with 12:35 on the clock. Another power play opportunity allowed Amos to score the game-winning goal at 8:42 and she added the security tally with 1:09 remaining on the empty Husky goal to solidify the 5-3 win for the Buckeyes.

- Amos and Dunne tied for the team lead with three points on the day.
- Amos’ hat trick is her second of the season. She previously scored four goals in the 6-0 win over Bemidji State on Jan. 10. She has now scored a goal in the last four games for the Buckeyes. With the power play goal, she has broken into the top-10 in the program record book for season power play goals with nine on the year.
- Ohio State kept up its recent power play success, converting on two of three opportunities in Friday’s game. Dunne’s first period power play goal was her fifth of the season.
- Thiele finished the game with 13 saves in the win. She improved to 15-5-2.
