PRELIMS RESULTS
CLEVELAND, Ohio –
The BGSU swim & dive team soared to new heights during the final day of the Magnus Cup Invitational, as 17 swimmers qualified for A and/or B finals in all seven events and helped lead the Falcons to a fourth-place finish as a team.After finishing Day 1 in seventh, Bowling Green rose up three spots to best MAC rival Toledo and host Cleveland State at the Busbey Natatorium. Additionally, they were only 20 points off of third from Xavier.
The preliminaries took place in the morning, and the top 40 in each event qualified for the A, B, C and D finals, respectfully, in the evening based on their prelim times. Ten swimmers participated in each event, as the Busbey Natatorium is a 10-lane pool.
Lourdes Manderfield started off the fun with a 16th-place finish in the 1,650 freestyle (17:27.58), which marked a career best.
Four Falcons qualified in the B final of the 100 IM and were led by Joanna Robertson (58.77), who won the event (11th overall). Taylor Devorace (59.00) came in second while Alyse Sorg (59.70) and Grace Perlberg (59.82) notched sixth and seventh, respectfully.
Three more participated in the 50 butterfly B final, with Karina Solera (25.01) placing second and Riley McNichols (25.34) and Grace Bodrock (26.09) taking fifth and tenth.
Solera became the first Falcon this season to earn an A cut in the event for the CSCAA National Invitational Championship which will take place in mid-March in Ocala, Florida.
Emily McNicol, who qualified for the A final in the 200 backstroke, took seventh (2:02.79), while Samia Becdach took eighth (50.97) in the 100 freestyle in the A final.
Becdach’s time is the ninth-fastest in program history and best since Franziska Wohlert’s 50.86 at the 2019 MAC Championships.
Perlberg swam in the B final of the 200 breaststroke and placed sixth (2:23.35). McNicol then continued her fine weekend by earning second in the A final of the 50 backstroke, which marked the Falcons’ highest placer in any event of the Invitational.
McNicol’s time in the event was good enough to earn an A cut for the NIC meet.
Alexandra Johnson (26.51) won the B final, while Becdach (26.87) notched third.
The A final of the 200 butterfly saw a flock of Falcons, as four qualified – the most of any event of the weekend. Solera (2:02.84) placed fourth, while Ava Vial (2:02.99), Fabiana D’Ambrogio (2:04.06) and Bodrock (2:04.34) finished in fifth, eighth and tenth, respectfully.
Solera’s mark is now the ninth-best time in program history and fastest since Bodrock’s 2:02.67 she went at last year’s Magnus Cup.
Abby Toepfer (2:07.13) took sixth in the B final.
The 400-freestyle relay squad of McNicol, Becdach, Annie Berrow and Elayna Krupp earned tenth with a 3:29.58 mark.
As for platform diving, Claire Werner led the way with a fourth-place score of 188.20. The Falcons also won the team platform diving event and 3×3 diving relay (Elise Snyder, Werner, Evie Long) in their first performance on the towers.

BGSU will not compete until the 2025 calendar year, as they head to Florida during their training trip to take on host Barry and Simon Fraser on Sunday, January 5 at 11 a.m.
