Falcons Explode for Three Second-Half Goals to Earn Senior-Night Win

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University used a dominant second-half performance to rally from a halftime deficit for an important Missouri Valley Conference win Friday night (Oct. 10). The Falcons downed Bradley University, 3-1, at Cochrane Stadium.

Senior Trace Terry had two goals and an assist, while junior Bennett Painter scored as well for the Falcons (5-6-2, 1-2-0 MVC). Sophomore Ryko Bodurov had two assists in the win.

The Falcons, looking to snap a two-match win streak, seemed to be on the front foot in the first half, but found themselves trailing at halftime. The Braves (2-5-5, 0-2-1 MVC) took the lead just over a half hour into the match when Nokkvi Hjorvarsson scored after running onto an errant BGSU pass.

Undaunted, BGSU peppered goalkeeper Drew Berry and the Bradley defense with 14 shot attempts in the second half (and 23 on the night), and the Falcons finally broke through on a Golazo by Terry in the 63rd minute. Bodurov chipped the ball into the penalty area from the right side, and Terry left his feet to fire an unstoppable half-volley into the upper-left-hand corner of the net.

After tying the score, Terry gave the Falcons the lead for good just over seven minutes later. The Seattle Sounders FC draft choice was fouled in the 18-yard box with just under 20 minutes remaining in the match, and blasted the ensuing penalty kick past Berry.

BG added some insurance with eight and a half minutes to go. Senior Andrew Shaffer played Terry down the left side of the field, and Terry crossed the ball into the ‘danger zone.’ From the far side of the six-yard box, Bodurov headed the ball back across the goalmouth, and Painter got a touch at the left post, giving the Falcons a two-goal lead.

The Falcons had advantages of 23-16 in shots, 11-5 in shots on goal and 6-5 in corner kicks. Jason Ball made four saves in goal to earn the win, while Berry had seven stops at the other end of the field.
