Graphic Body cam footage shows Dayton officer being stabbed

DAYTON Ohio (WKEF) — Body camera video is giving us a look at what unfolded inside 1518 Bancroft St on Thursday. You can see 29-year-old Tyler Patrick lunges at Officer George Kloos with a knife, stabbing him in the neck. The full video can be seen on dayton247now.com

Officers were responding to a mental health call when the incident occurred.

Police tried multiple de-escalation tactics before things went wrong.

“Are you feeling homicidal, suicidal? I came here to talk to you. Do you have a healthcare worker that you talk to? Could we go to Grandview and get you checked out?” asked Officer George Kloos.

“I’m not going to Grandview,” said Patrick.

“These officers were doing a phenomenal job at de-escalation. The patience they showed we are extremely proud of, and I’ll be honest, I don’t know what more they could have done in these situations,” said Major Jason Hall with the Dayton Police Department.

Patrick told officers he was hearing voices and insisted that someone was in his home.

Dayton Police say the suspect is no stranger to them, and they felt it was best that officers go to the scene instead of mental health professionals.

“There were previous threats of violence. This was an appropriate call for police,” said Major Hall.

The President of the Dayton Fraternal Order of Police said knowing when to bring in an expert could be difficult.

“When you’re dealing with things out on the street and in the community. It’s completely dynamic and uncontrolled. So, bringing a civilian in and putting them in a say yesterday situation. What could have been the fallout as they had been close and been the one that been hurt?”said Thomas.

Patrick is now facing aggravated felonious assault charges.

Dayton Police say Officer Kloos is home recovering and taking time off.
