Wood County Sheriff’s Office receives set of tires made from Ohio soybeans

WOOD COUNTY, Ohio — The Wood County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday morning that it had received a set of soy-based tires for one of its vehicles. 

According to a press release, the Ohio Soybean Council approached the sheriff’s office to “test a new market for tires,” specifically soy-based tires, on patrol vehicles. 

The sheriff’s office said the soybeans used to produce the tires are harvested form Ohio farmers and manufactured by Ohio workers as well. The tires are specifically designed to handle a patrol vehicle’s job, as well as manage Ohio’s unpredictable weather.

Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn emphasized in the press release what he said are the benefits of the tires. 

“Thanks to the Ohio Soybean Council, we were able to receive a full set of tires for one of our patrol vehicles that are soy-based Goodyear tires, replacing petroleum oils with renewable soybeans,” Wasylyshyn said. “We are extremely grateful for the donation and proud to be using Ohio farmers products on our patrol vehicle. A safe, environmentally friendly and cost-effective product just makes sense.”
