TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Trash continued to pile up in one Toledo neighborhood, resulting in two massive heaps of garbage. Now, people who live in the area are asking the 13 Action News I-TEAM for help.
Garbage heaps line both sides of the street.
“It’s unacceptable,” Theodore Wood a resident of the neighborhood said.
Neighbors said the piles in the 1400 block of Colburn have been growing for weeks if not months.
“It’s embarrassing because I know that myself, along with other neighbors, really try for this neighborhood. You’ll see people really try here. And it’s just sad that I think people have added to the issue,” Wood said.
Fed up with the trash, Wood called the I-TEAM for help.
“Imagine having to live here,” Wood said.
About an hour after I-TEAM reporter Sophie Bates reached out to the city, crews were on scene to clean up the mess.
“The city was out here with works bulldozing. Beep. Beep. Beep. Cat claws. People. I mean, it happened instantly,” Wood said.
The city responded in a statement saying in part, “Blight is a stubborn problem.” And, “We understand its effect on quality of life.”
In the new year, the city said it is looking to implement new ways to prevent issues like this from happening in the first place.
While that may help other neighborhoods in thee future, for Colburn residents, the problem is finally solved.
