The closure of Tracy Road was supposed to last only 21 days. Now months later, neighbors are concerned about a lack of progress and a lot of dust.
WOOD COUNTY, Ohio — A section of Tracy Road northbound between Latcha Road and State Route 795 has been closed for months, despite signs saying the work would last only 21 days.
Residents along the road say there has been little visible progress since the closure began June 10, and they are frustrated with the dust, traffic and safety concerns created by the stalled project.
Jeff May, who has lived on Tracy Road for about six years, said dirt and dust from the site have been a persistent issue.
Others say safety is their biggest concern. Cyril Coutcher, who lives nearby, said the construction detour and heavy truck traffic have created dangerous conditions.
“I can’t go in and out, you know? I mean, if I take my grandchildren with me, I’ll put their life in danger because these trucks, they don’t slow down,” Coutcher said.
Rudy Crow, who has lived near Tracy Road for more than 25 years, said he has seen multiple crashes over the years and worries the closure is making the situation worse.
“The years I’ve lived here, I’ve pulled four couples out of the ditch in front of my house where they flipped the car in the ditch,” Crow said. “Down to one lane, all them truck firms, the haulers coming in and out of there, wrong-way and a one-way. And then it makes it where we can’t get in and out the way we want to go.”
WTOL 11 reached out to the Wood County Engineer’s Office for information about the delays but has not received a response.
