TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – You don’t need to be a farmer or have acres of land to grow your own food. That was the message behind Tuesday’s Urban Agriculture Program event.
The city of Toledo is partnering with Urban Wholistics Farm and Toledo Preparatory Academy for the project.
The project offers hands-on learning for seventh and eighth-grade TPA students. It teaches them about planting and the whole farm-to-table process.
The students are also gaining entrepreneurial skills and exposure to green career paths.
“We have students out here that are interested in culinary, design and production, broadcasting as well as cosmetology. So, really learning about how they can use different products that they would grow to produce different things that they may want to use in life,” Dr. Stephanie Covington, the commissioner of educational engagement and workforce development for the city of Toledo, said.
The program will extend through the summer and into the next school year.
