The ‘So All May Eat’, or SAME CafĂ©, opened its doors to the community at the Main Library in 2022. It will close next week.
TOLEDO, Ohio — A non-profit cafĂ© located in Toledo’s Main Library will close later this month after originally opening in late 2022.
So All May Eat/SAME CafĂ© is part of an independent non-profit based out of Denver. The cafĂ© operates on a “participation model” where people can pay for meals by donating money, volunteering time or produce.
“The decision to close the Toledo location was made by the Board of So All May Eat, Inc. due to the financial challenges that come with supporting two locations,” a Toledo-Lucas County Public Library spokesperson said in a press release. “The cafĂ© closure is unrelated to the ongoing deliberations happening at the state level about the Public Library Fund.”
The cafĂ©’s last day will be April 23.
“The Toledo Library is incredibly proud of what it and SAME accomplished during the past three years: strengthening community through healthy food access and creating a shared space for collaboration, openness and care,” the press release said. “SAME CafĂ© has served hundreds of meals each week since it opened at Main Library in 2022.”
It is unclear what plans the library may have for the space once SAME Café closes.
