TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – One Toledo resident lost his house to a fire, and the community is coming together to try and help the home owner.
Kenneth Heggie lives in Toledo and has worked for Local 45 for 36 years. On Wednesday, Jan. 8, Heggie got a call from a neighbor saying that his house was on fire. Heggie rushed home from work and saw five fire trucks trying to put out the flames on his house.
The fire damaged eight of the 12 rooms, and Heggie describes it as a total loss. He lost all three of his cats in the fire.
Heggie told 13 Action News The house was paid off and he was just two days away from retirement.
“I’m going to have to pretty much replace everything. I’ve got a few items of clothes I got some of my valuables out of there, but it’s pretty much a complete loss,” Heggie said.
Heggie turned to his daughter for help. He went to stay at her home while he figures out what is next.
“We are best friends, we tell each other everything. I would do anything for her and she’d do anything for me,” Heggie said.
The daughter helped him setup a GoFundMe to help try and replace some of the items that were lost. If you would like to help the family you can donate at the link below.
