CLEVELAND — For the second time in three seasons, the Toledo women’s basketball team will play for a Mid-American Conference championship in Cleveland.
The Rockets knocked off Buffalo on Friday afternoon 56-49 to punch their ticket to Saturday’s title game against the No. 1 seed Ball State.
Toledo was led by Nan Garcia and Rossford graduate Sammi Mikonowicz, who each had 13 points. Garcia also collected 15 rebounds in the victory.
The No. 2 seed Rockets overcame a seven-point halftime deficit after only scoring two points in the second quarter, outscoring the Bulls 21-13 in the final frame to secure the win.
Toledo and Ball State will square off on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, which will be televised on the CBS Sports Network. The winner will punch their ticket to the NCAA tournament.
The Rockets and Cardinals split the two regular-season meetings. Toledo lost the first matchup on the road in January 77-63 and won the second matchup at home in February 70-66.
