TOLEDO, Ohio — A woman was arrested for allegedly leaving her 3-month-old baby unattended in a car early Wednesday morning in west Toledo.
According to Toledo police, officers observed a group of people and parked cars at Bowman Park on Jackman Road around 12:53 a.m.
Officers then found an unattended 3-month-old infant unsecured in a car seat in the back of a vehicle. According to TPD, no guardian was present, leading them to break out a front window “to ensure the infant’s safety.”
Police said the mother of the child, Leila Bruce, 20, was later arrested and transported to the Lucas County jail.
Bruce is charged with one count of endangering children. She pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Toledo Municipal Court, where she was released on an own recognizance bond and was ordered to have no contact with her child.
According to a Toledo police report, the child was transported to children services. WTOL 11 has reached out to Lucas County Children Services to confirm if the child is currently in their custody.
