Toledo Walleye fans pack the stands eyeing a Kelly Cup championship


TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – The Toledo Walleye are back in the Kelly Cup Finals and fans are confident this is the year the franchise brings home it’s first Kelly Cup championship.

“We are overdue to win it all, we are way overdue to win it all. It’s good to see the excitement I feel like there’s a little more energy this go around,” said Walleye fan April Doran.

Fans anticipating the big game went to Hensville Park hours before the game to show off their Toledo Walleye pride and celebrate being back in the finals. Fans say this is the team to get the job done.

“This is a good team. Intense, unbelievable, insane, they fight to the finish,” Walleye fan Bill Forche said.

Thousands of fans packed in the Huntington Center confident they would see a game one victory over the Trois-Rivières Lions. The Walleye would go on to win 3-1 to take early control of the series.

Game 2 is on Monday, June 2nd. at 7:15pm. Fifth Third Field is hosting a free watch party that fans can attend who didn’t get tickets to the game.
