Residents on Arlington Avenue have been waiting more than a year for a solution to two growing sinkholes in their south Toledo neighborhood.
TOLEDO, Ohio — The city of Toledo announced its working with Crestline Paving and Excavating, a paving company, to fix a waterline on Arlington Avenue between South Detroit and Francis avenues.Â
The issue stems from two massive sinkholes that have disturbed nearby residents more than a year now, including Morgan Stevens.

“I can’t really express how I feel about the situation because I’m just angry at the whole thing,” said Stevens.
While the first sinkhole that appeared late last year is a few houses down from her, the second is directly in front of her home. “And it’s just expanding,” said Stevens.
She said the second sinkhole had gotten worse after a severe storm a few weeks ago. “And I was like, oh that’s a good sight of sore eyes,” said Stevens.
It’s more than just an eyesore. Morgan tells WTOL 11 that it has affected her home’s waterline after it was crushed when Columbia Gas put rocks into the sinkhole to stabilize the gas.
“So it was hard for all of us because we didn’t take a shower for like two days,” said Stevens.
Crestline Paving and Excavating Company tells WTOL 11 that it plans to start work to fix the waterline on Wednesday. Once the sanitary sewer and waterline have been repaired and replaced, the city said it will reconstruct Arlington Avenue.
However, we do not know yet if the city has found someone to work with regarding sanitary sewer repair.
We reached out to the city to find out more information, including how much the waterline replacement is going to cost, however, we haven’t yet heard back.
“I just hope they can fix the problem,” Stevens said. “And if they can’t, then they should do better, because this is unnecessary.”
