Brandi Aldrich pleaded not guilty to an assault charge in Toledo Municipal Court.
TOLEDO, Ohio — Brandi Nicole Aldrich, a licensed substitute teacher at Toledo Preparatory Academy, was arrested on Monday and charged with assault after an alleged incident involving a female student.
According to a police report, officers responded to the school on Consaul Street after receiving reports of an altercation.
The report states that Aldrich, 31, allegedly grabbed the student in an attempt to remove her from her desk, then attempted to put her in a headlock.
When unsuccessful, Aldrich allegedly shoved the student out of the classroom.
The student sustained redness to her neck but no further injuries were reported, police said.
An officer who responded to the scene observed video footage of the incident and filed the complaint.
Aldrich was arrested and transported to the Lucas County jail where she was booked on a misdemeanor assault charge before her court appearance on Tuesday morning.
Aldrich appeared in Toledo Municipal Court and pleaded not guilty to the assault charge. She was released on an own recognizance bond and the judge also approved a temporary protection order for the student.
Records show Aldrich holds a one-year substitute teaching license for ages pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade that expires on June 30, 2025.
WTOL 11 has reached out to school officials for comment and a spokesperson responded Tuesday, saying:
“The safety of students and staff is the highest priority of Toledo Preparatory Academy and our administration acts swiftly, and closely with police as necessary, to address safety concerns.”
