Toledo man sentenced to 27 years for sexually abusing, exploiting minors

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A U.S. District Judge has sentenced a Toledo man to 27 years in prison after he admitted to creating and distributing child sexual abuse materials.

According to a press release from the Department of Justice, Michael Aspinwall, 38, of Toledo, pleaded guilty to one count of sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of receipt and distribution of child pornography.

According to court documents, Aspinwall admitted to producing sexual abuse materials of children and sending and receiving digital files from October 2023 through Feb. 9, 2024. On Feb. 9, 2024,

FBI-Toledo, along with Toledo Police, executed a search warrant and seized Aspinwall’s phone. While searching the phone, authorities uncovered sexually explicit photos and videos of minors. According to the press release, the photos and videos included infants and toddlers.

According to the press release, Aspinwall admitted to an undercover online investigator that he sexually abused children whom he babysat while they were sleeping.

U.S. District Judge James R. Knepp sentenced Aspinwall to 27 years in prison and upon release, he will have to serve a lifetime supervised release and register as a sex offender.
