Toledo man accused of crashing into apartment while ‘heavily intoxicated’

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A Toledo man was arrested after police said he drove drunk and crashed into an apartment building.

Police records show Ronald Merrill, 52, of Toledo, was arrested over the weekend for an alleged drunken crash that caused severe damage to an apartment.

The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 31 at the Orchard Farms apartments on Talmadge Road, near the intersection of Alexis and Talmadge.

Toledo Police reports said Merrill was behind the wheel while “heavily intoxicated” and struck the building, causing severe damage to an apartment. The people inside the apartment at the time weren’t injured, police said.

The city building inspector was called out to check on the safety of the structure.

Merrill was injured in the incident and taken to an area hospital for treatment before he was booked into the Lucas County jail. He’s facing an OVI charge.

He faced a judge and was released on his own recognizance, court records show. He’s due back in court on Sept. 16.
