Toledo couple facing grand theft, arson charges in criminal scheme


TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A Toledo woman is accused of stealing more than $89,000 from the convenience store where she worked, and then forging business records and committing arson in an attempt to cover up the crime. Now she and her husband are facing a combined 16 criminal charges.

According to indictments filed in Williams County Common Pleas Court, Traci Weills stole approximately $89,000 in lottery tickets from the Main Stop convenience store and gas station she managed in Pioneer.

She’s alleged to have given those tickets to her husband, Kevin Weills, who turned the tickets in, garnering more than $46,000 in winnings from the stolen tickets.

In addition to the lottery ticket thefts, Traci Weills is accused of stealing more than $2,500 of products and services from the store.

Traci Weills is also alleged to have gone to extreme lengths to cover up the crimes.

Court documents said, she forged pull-tab receipts, altered business records and forged records in the Lottery Commission telecommunications system. She also allegedly lit a cardboard box full of pull-tab receipts and records on fire while customers and employees were in the store, which led to three aggravated arson charges.

Traci Weills is also charged with:

– Engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity

– Two counts of grand theft

– Two counts of theft

– Misdemeanor theft

– Telecommunications fraud

– Tampering with records

– Possessing criminal tools

– Passing bad checks

Kevin Weills is facing three charges: engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and two counts of grand theft.

The business where these crimes allegedly occurred did not comment on this story. Neither did Traci Weills’ lawyer. Kevin Weills’ lawyer, while not providing a comment, did say his client plans to enter a not-guilty plea later this month.
