SWANTON, Ohio — The Toledo Air Show made a soaring return this weekend after a six-year break, drawing thousands of spectators to Toledo Express Airport for an action-packed display of military might, aviation history, and daring stunts.
With jets screaming overhead and parachutists jumping from planes, the event offered a high-energy experience for fans of all ages.
Attendees were treated to a variety of static displays showcasing military aircraft and equipment. “I think it’s great. I’m really impressed by all the static displays, all the Air Force equipment that they use. It’s a really impressive show,” said aviation fan Owen Applin.
The energy was palpable as families, veterans, and aviation enthusiasts roamed the grounds, many of them drawn by the thunderous main event—the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.
“I love the tricks and the stunts. And then always thinking, ‘are they going to be okay’, and then it reminds me of like a roller coaster. And the smoke is just awesome,” said Thunderbirds fan Penny Brule.
Senior Master Sergeant Elizabeth Holliker, Public Affairs Superintendent with the 180th Fighter Wing, shared what keeps her coming back year after year. “I’ve been here for 25 years, and I never get tired of it. But also watching the kids and even the adults get so excited, watching them wave at the planes as they fly by is a really cool feeling.”
The highlight of the day came when the Thunderbirds took to the sky, thrilling the crowd with synchronized maneuvers and inverted flight. The elite demonstration team showcased their precision and speed, bringing patriotic awe to the Toledo skyline.
“So far, it’s a great show. The Thunderbirds put on a fabulous show. The military always does a good presentation. All aspects of aviation are well represented, the great turnout here. The city and the airport really promote it and do a really good job. The show is always fabulous,” said attendee Emmanuel Diakonis.
As the jets roared overhead and the crowd looked skyward, it was clear the Toledo Air Show had made a triumphant return, reaffirming its place as a cherished local tradition.
