TECUMSEH, Mich. — Students in one Lenawee school district will have an unexpected three-day weekend.
Tecumseh Public Schools announced on Sunday that all schools in the district will be closed on Monday due to a city-wide boil water advisory.
In a letter to parents, Superintendent Matt Hilton says the district made the decision because of the effect of the boil advisory on food services and availability of safe drinking water for students and staff.
In addition to the school day, the Board of Education meeting and all home athletic events, practices, and extracurricular activities will also be canceled.
The district said they will make a decision on whether school and school-related activities will be canceled on Tuesday sometime on Monday.
The City of Tecumseh issued the boil advisory after a drop in pressure in the city’s water supply after a number of water main breaks on January 12.
People in Tecumseh are asked to boil water for a minute before using for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes or preparing food.
