Peggy Marchand successfully performed the Heimlich maneuver on a third grade student.
SYLVANIA, Ohio — Substitute cafeteria aide Peggy Marchand has been recognized for her actions in saving a choking student at Maplewood Elementary in Sylvania.
According to Sylvania schools, during third-grade lunch on March 31, a student began choking on an orange slice.
Other students at the table got the attention of substitute cafeteria aide Peggy Marchand. Marchand then came over and immediately began performing the Heimlich maneuver on the student. She was able to help the student remove the slice that was stuck.
The student then recovered after the ordeal.
Maplewood Principal Brittany Robbins commended the fellow students and Marchand’s actions.
“Thanks to the quick response of both the students and Peggy, the student recovered safely. Their awareness and fast action helped prevent a potentially serious situation, and we are grateful for their heroic efforts,” Robbins said
