Severe weather Thursday night. Call Engage Toledo for sinkhole, water issues

You can call Engage Toledo at 419-936-2020 at any time of the day or night.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledoans are urged to quickly contact the city’s Engage Toledo service at 419-936-2020 if the severe weather risk Thursday into Friday causes issues with sinkholes or water.

A city spokesperson said in a press release on Thursday that city crews have already been responding to “a high volume of sinkhole reports, along with other water-related emergencies, including water in the basement” after storms the previous night.

You can call Engage Toledo at any time of the day or night to report concerns.

The WTOL 11 Weather Team has issued a Weather Impact ALERT DAY for Thursday evening into early Friday, with severe weather expected between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. All modes of severe weather will be possible including very large hail, damaging winds and possible tornadoes. There will be the potential of winds over 70 mph with the strongest storms that may cause significant wind damage and power outages.

If an issue warrants calling Engage Toledo, the city says promptness is important.

“When you speak with a call taker, they may need to ask follow-up questions to help assess the severity of the issue and ensure the right response is prioritized,” the city says.

“Once a call is received, the concern is dispatched to the on-duty foreman, and a crew is assigned to investigate. Crews may not knock on your door when responding if the issue is located in the street or public right-of-way. Residents can request updates by contacting Engage Toledo after the initial investigation is complete.

The complexity of each repair can vary based on the size and depth of the sinkhole and whether nearby utilities are affected. In some cases, repairs must wait until other utility work is completed or a contractor can be brought in. Road restoration will be done once the repairs are completed.

Our crews are working around the clock to investigate and resolve each issue as quickly and safely as possible. We appreciate the public’s patience as we continue to address these concerns.”

Sinkholes have been a cause of concern for many residents in south Toledo as of late, especially those living in the neighborhood around Arlington Avenue.
