In the six years Beau Rupp and his family have lived in their Williams County home, he’s never seen damage as destructive as the system that hit Sunday night.
MONTPELIER, Ohio — The village of Montpelier was hit hard by a fast-moving spring storm system on Sunday, leaving many people without power and damage to clean up.
However, one family WTOL 11 spoke to said they were hit extra hard by the storm.
“We’ve had high winds, but never to the point of flying roofs and things absolutely going nuts like they did,” said Beau Rupp, a lifelong resident of the Williams County village.
For the last six years, Rupp and his family have lived at their home in Montpelier. And in that time, he says he’s never experienced weather so destructive.

“It’s a lot. It’s glass, it’s water damage, and holes that are going to have to be repaired,” he explained during a tour of his ravaged home he gave WTOL 11 a tour of on Monday.
The damage was extensive: glass littered the floor and belongings were in disarray.
As he walked through and pointed out other visible damages, Rupp said he and his brother, Tyler, got to work right away, cleaning and repairing what they could.
“All the windows that are broken, we put tarps over top of them to keep out as much water and wind as possible,” his brother said.
Though frustrating, doing repairs and dealing with weather-related damage are risks Rupp said come with living in the country.
Rupp added that his career as an industrial technician helps to make cleanups and repairs a bit easier, and he’s glad the burden didn’t fall on someone else.
“It comes with the territory. It’s just me this time and not someone else,” Rupp said.
Despite the damage, Rupp says if it weren’t for his mother calling him, his family would’ve been in the home when the storm tore through.
“Nobody was injured. We were all completely out of the house, so nobody was here when it happened, which is what we’re fortunate for,” he said.
According to the village manager, power was restored for most residents after a short period; however, for those still without power, it could be until Wednesday before it’s restored.
