TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Residents and political hopefuls are calling for a stop-work order for Rocky Ridge Development, which is in its peak season right now, according to the company.
Residents’ concerns include dust, traffic and the environment for the site on Angola Road near Airport Highway and South Byrne Road.
The matter went through the city council’s agenda review on Tuesday and will be voted on next Tuesday.
Toledo mayoral candidate Robbert Torres, who is challenging incumbent mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz, has been outspoken against the mining operation.
“As you can see right behind us, we still have dust and sand in the roadway, you have trucks pulling out in front of traffic. It’s not the right area for this development project. Nobody is saying this contract can’t go through for the city and developer, but it just can’t happen here,” Torres said in a news conference Wednesday.
Torres said the group against the mining operation plans to be at Councilman John Hobbs III’s town hall meeting Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Reynolds Corner Branch Library.
