TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – The Monroe County Sheriff is closing a nearly 40-year-old cold case after remains were identified.
On October 17, 1986, Monroe County Sheriff’s Detectives were alerted by a citizen of possible skeletal remains in a wooded lot on Lewis Ave. in Ida, Michigan.
Through extensive DNA testing, they were able to identify the victim as Shaun Daniel Brauner of Detroit, who had been missing since June of 1986.
According to the press release from Sheriff Troy Goodnough, Brauner’s death was adjudicated in 1990, so the case has been closed.
Brauner’s remains were returned to his family for a memorial service.
