Putnam County community hit hard by recent storms

Three people were injured during the storms, a press release said. Several buildings and homes were also damaged or destroyed throughout the county.

PUTNAM COUNTY, Ohio — Putnam County residents were greatly affected by the recent storm damage, with many experiencing power outages and some being injured.

The Putnam County Office of Public Safety issued a press release following the aftermath of Wednesday’s severe weather storms.

According to the press release, there were multiple calls relating to tornado warnings in the evening. The storms left downed power lines, trees, as well as large amounts of scattered debris throughout the county.

Several buildings and homes were also damaged or destroyed as a result, with the Dupont area being hit the hardest.

Three people were injured during the storms but injuries are non-life threatening, the press release said.

Widespread power outages and closed roadways remain for many residents.

The press release stated Putnam County EMA would be continuing damage assessments Thursday morning, as the National Weather Service-Northern Indiana is scheduled to be in the county at 11 a.m.

The county wants to remind people to not drive over power lines or get close to them. Also to not drive through closed roads.
