Police looking for driver, vehicle that seriously injured man in Williams County hit-and-run


WILLIAMS Co., Ohio (WTVG) – Police are looking for the driver and vehicle involved in a hit-and-run that seriously injured a Montpelier man, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened at the intersection of US-20 and County Road 4 in Northwest Township in Williams County around 7:25 P.M. Thursday.

Robert McDiarmid, 63, was driving a 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound on US-20 when he was hit by an unknown dark-colored vehicle that did not stop at a stop sign, according to officials.

Authorities said McDiarmid swerved to avoid the vehicle and ran off the south side of US-20. The driver that hit him fled the scene.

McDiarmid was taken by Parkview LifeFlight to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana with serious injuries, said troopers.

According to officials, McDiarmid was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The roadway was closed for approximately 45 minutes due to the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is seeking additional information about the identity of the dark-colored vehicle. Troopers say it is unknown if the vehicle sustained any damage.

The crash remains under investigation.
