TOLEDO, Ohio — Lucas County Metropolitan Housing (LMH) is accepting applications for a new affordable housing community slated to open in south Toledo this September.

The community, called Park Apartments, is located on a half-acre site on Wade and Knapp streets in south Toledo. According to a press release from LMH, the purpose of the community is to provide housing specifically to young adults in the area who are at risk of or are experiencing homelessness.

The building contains 45 units and is rebuilt from the former Park Hotel, which was built in 1909 and demolished in 2023. 41 of the units will be single-bedroom, while four will be two-bedroom. The project in total cost $15 million, LMH said.

The building also includes a community room with an attached kitchen, a fitness space, laundry facilities and storage. Additionally, there will be on-site parking for vehicles and parking.

Who is eligible?

The project is aimed at providing affordable housing to young adults facing homelessness and other obstacles. LMH said as many as 2,252 students experienced homelessness in Lucas County during the 2022-2023 school year.

“The new Park Apartments will stand as a cornerstone for our most vulnerable young adults.  This is more than just housing — it’s a chance to build stability, hope and a brighter future for youth who deserve every opportunity to thrive,” said Toledo-Lucas County Homelessness Board Executive Director Julie Embree in the press release.

Eligibility requirements for housing are as follows:
